Welcome!

Welcome to Kindergarten! My name is Daisey Ingiosi and I had the pleasure of teaching first grade at Bethany for eleven years before I jumped into an administrative role during the past few years. Before teaching at Bethany, I taught Kindergarten and afternoon preschool for four years at a small private Christian school in West Grove until my daughter, Payton, was born. She is 20 years old now - wow! Recently, I was reflecting on the impact of sending Payton to Bethany during preschool, elementary, and middle school. The benefits outweighed the sacrifices that we made. In fact, I can think of nothing else that we invested in that had greater importance.

I am so excited to be in the classroom again! I look forward to a wonderful year full of growth and development in your little one. During the month of September we will spend time getting to know each other, getting our schedule to run smoothly and becoming aware of our class and school rules.

In Bible this year, we will journey through a good part of the Old Testament. We will learn one or two verses a month, depending on the length of the verse, that relate to our Bible focus.  Your child will be quizzed on the verses orally. The verses and quiz dates will be posted in your child's Bible journal and included in our monthly newsletter on this blog. The Bible journal needs to return to school on the quiz date so a new verse can be added.  We will also study verses in class. Our school theme verse and the first one for memorization is: "Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor." Romans 12:10. The quiz for this verse is on Thursday, September 13th.

One of the joys of Kindergarten is learning to read! Our reading program includes a combination of using phonics to decode words and sight word recognition. Students will meet with me in small groups each day. Each student will have a reading book that will be used in class and then sent home as reading homework. Reading homework will start a few weeks after school begins. Details about reading homework books will be forthcoming. I will send home sight word lists each quarter for your child to practice.

Reading and writing are skills that are developed together. We will use the Handwriting Without Tears program to strengthen our letter and number formation. On Wednesdays, students will experience reading through writing using Kid Writing activities.

Our school has purchased a new math curriculum to use for grades K-8. I am excited to use this resource in the classroom. This math curriculum, Pearson's enVision, will challenge our students to stretch their mathematical thinking. Your child will have a small amount of homework they will bring home each night. Please complete and return the next day. More information about math homework will be forthcoming.

Students will eat a snack and lunch each day. Please send healthy options for your child. In addition, please send a water bottle each day. They will be sent home each night for cleaning.

Students will enjoy two recess periods a day and a short nap/rest in the afternoon. Please send your child in play clothes as they may get dirty on the playground. Please send a nap mat for your child's nap/rest time.

If you have any questions or concerns throughout the year, you may email me at dingiosi@bethanychristian.org, call the office at 610-998-0877, or send a note with your child.

I look forward to getting to know you and your child. It will be exciting working together so that your child has a positive, successful Kindergarten year!

In Christ,
Mrs. Ingiosi
